Super Eagles Back in Nigeria After Libya Airport Ordeal: Unbroken Naija Spirit Shines Through”

The Super Eagles have safely returned to Nigeria after a frustrating 13-hour delay at a Libyan airport, ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

The team, which had been stranded since Monday, made headlines when photos of players sleeping on benches at the airport went viral, sparking widespread condemnation. Fans and media alike were outraged by the situation, questioning how such a top-tier national team could face such treatment before a crucial match.

Despite the ordeal, the Nigerian squad is now back home after finally receiving clearance from Libyan authorities. Their resilience during the ordeal has drawn praise from many supporters.

Expressing his pride, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong took to social media, saying, “Back home safe and sound. Proud of this team—NAIJA SPIRIT can’t be broken. Throw at us what you want, it’s in our blood to overcome.”

Troost-Ekong further reflected on the experience, noting how it had strengthened their bond as a team: “I’ve seen a lot in my 10 years with this group, but nothing like this. An experience that has brought us even closer together.”

Though the delay was a challenge, the Super Eagles’ determination to rise above the setback shows the unbreakable spirit that continues to define Nigerian football. Now, the focus shifts to the upcoming AFCON qualifier, where they aim to turn this challenge into fuel for success.
