Crayon Reflects on His Struggle with Drug Addiction and Near Mental Breakdown.

Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, popularly known as Crayon, recently opened up about his battle with drug addiction and a near-death experience that landed him in a psychiatric hospital. In an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the ‘Ngozi’ hitmaker shared the intense episode where his mental health deteriorated after using drugs.

Crayon recounted how, during this difficult time, he walked barefoot to Mavin Records’ studio, acting irrationally, and sat in front of the gate, visibly tired and distressed. His manager and fellow label artist Rema, who played a significant role in his recovery, came to his aid.

“Rema drove there, ready to fight… He said, ‘Bro, trust me, once you pass this stage, you will come out great,’” Crayon recalled, emphasizing Rema’s encouragement during his lowest moments.

Crayon revealed that he was eventually taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki, where he received the help he needed to recover. Reflecting on this experience, he feels fortunate that no one recorded him during the episode, as it could have severely affected his career and confidence.

His candid story sheds light on the often hidden struggles artists face, especially regarding mental health and substance abuse.
