Afrobeats sensation and producer Maleek Berry recently opened up about his early interactions with fellow artist Davido during their days as aspiring musicians. Speaking on the ‘90s Baby’ podcast, Maleek Berry shared a surprising revelation about Davido’s demeanor during those times.
The “Kontrol” hitmaker recalled how, despite coming from a wealthy background, Davido portrayed himself as just another struggling artist in the studio. Maleek Berry was taken aback when he eventually visited Davido’s father’s lavish mansion.
“I remember when Davido had only four thousand YouTube views. We would hit the studio in Bermondsey, recording tracks. He was introduced to me through one of his cousins on social media. Back then, he wasn’t famous, just another Nigerian guy passionate about music,” Berry reminisced.
“He acted like one of the regular kids who didn’t have much. But when I finally visited his dad’s place, it was mind-blowing. There’s rich, and then there’s what I saw. It was completely unexpected because he always blended in with us so well.”
Maleek Berry also credited Davido for connecting him to Wizkid, a relationship that further advanced his career.
