On Friday, the Nigeria Police Force summoned Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh to its headquarters in Abuja as part of an investigation into allegations of criminal defamation, cyberbullying, forgery, and other related charges. The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the invitation was issued under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police’s Monitoring Unit.
An invitation letter dated August 5, 2024, and signed by the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, DCP A.A. Elleman, disclosed that Tonto Dikeh’s name had surfaced prominently in the ongoing investigation. The letter stated:
“This office is investigating a case of criminal defamation, forgery, falsehood, cyberbullying, and criminal conversion reported to the Inspector-General of Police, in which your name and others feature prominently.”
The letter further requested her presence for an interview on August 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM to provide more insight into the allegations.
Force PRO Adejobi later confirmed that Tonto Dikeh complied with the invitation and was released after providing her statement, as the investigation is still ongoing.
“She was only invited to respond to a petition filed against her, and she has since left the unit, while the investigation continues,” Adejobi said.
