D’Tigress Bow Out of the Olympics Despite a Strong 4th Quarter Comeback

Nigeria’s D’Tigress put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell 74-88 to the U.S. women’s basketball team in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday night. Known for their physical and fearless style of play, the Nigerian team wasn’t fazed by their formidable opponents, matching the Americans shot for shot in the early stages of the game.

A’Ja Wilson, a two-time WNBA Most Valuable Player, led the U.S. with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jackie Young contributed 15 points, while Breanna Stewart, another two-time WNBA MVP, added 13 points to the tally. The U.S. team’s victory positions them to possibly surpass the U.S. men’s basketball team’s record of most consecutive Olympic golds, which was set between 1936 and 1968.

Despite their spirited performance, particularly in the fourth quarter, D’Tigress couldn’t close the gap against the dominant U.S. side. The Americans will now advance to the semi-finals to face Australia, who secured their spot by defeating Serbia 85-67.

This game highlighted the determination and skill of Nigeria’s D’Tigress, who despite the loss, showcased their potential on the world stage.
