For over a decade, Olamide has been a driving force in Nigerian hip-hop, cementing his status as a legend in the industry. In a shocking move, the YBNL boss announced a new project on June 26, 2024, just hours after delivering a show-stopping performance at Davido and Chioma’s wedding.
Titled ‘Ikigai’, a Japanese concept meaning “reason for being” or “life’s purpose”, the 7-track EP promises to be a masterclass in Olamide’s storytelling ability and musical prowess. The project features an all-star lineup, including Fireboy and Asake on “Uptown Disco” and former YBNL associates Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh on “Synchro System”.
Olamide had earlier teased a snippet of “Hello Habibi” on Instagram, which turns out to be the fifth track on the EP. This surprise project comes on the heels of Olamide’s 2023 announcement that ‘Unruly’ might be his final album.

‘Ikigai’ marks Olamide’s 10th solo project and 15th overall, solidifying his position as one of Nigeria’s most prolific artists. With a track record of delivering hits like “Trumpet” feat CKay, “New Religion” featuring Asake, and “Jinja”, fans are eagerly anticipating the YBNL reunion on ‘Ikigai’. As Olamide continues to write new chapters in his illustrious career, ‘Ikigai’ promises to be a testament to his enduring legacy in Nigerian music.
