Tomorrow, Lydia Jazmine is live in concert
In the October of last year, Ugandan singer- songwriter, and performer Lydia Nabawanuka alias Lydia Jazmine announced that she would be holding her first ever concert. This was after her previous plan to do so was sabotaged by the pandemic.
Initially leaving out the detail of venue with the announcement, Lydia made a special request that no other artist books out the date she had chosen for her which is March 1, 2024, as it had been a mushrooming trend in the music industry of Ugandan or even promoters of events themselves to announce/ hold same day concerts, which in turn affects the turn up at one of the shows, and also seeming as a sign of unhealthy competition.
Among the past case scenarios was Alien Skin and Mc Pallaso who both held shows on the same day, Fik Fameica and David Lutalo conflicted over a date of concert as they both coincidentally ended up announcing having shows on January 27, 2024. Cindy and Sheebah’s musical battle held at the Kololo Airstrip last year was also largely caused by a same day date booking for a concert for each. The other memorable one being the legendary Ronald Mayinja picking Women’s Day (March 8) as the day to hold his concert, just right after Blu*3 had announced they would be also having another reunion concert on that day. Whereas it may bring about a financial gain to either parties that go ahead and organize on the same day as whoever has previously announced first, it in somewhat way breeds unhealthy competition, and brings about friction among artists, directly and indirectly.
Initially tagged ‘Lydia Jazmine Live’ concert, the show has since got a name change to ‘First Born Concert’, denoting its name from her song that’s making rounds titled ‘Njagala’.
This is also additionally of significance and intentional for the concert is Lydia Jazmine’s vert first ever concert, her first born literally.
The concert is set to happen tomorrow at Hotel Africana, in the heart of Kampala, Uganda. To the writer of this piece’s knowledge, revellers are to part with 20,000 Ugandan Shillings for ordinary tickets, Ugandan shillings 50,000 for VIP and tables are going for 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings.
Lydia Jazmine’s artistry dates back to the days when then duo of Goodlyfe Entertainment made up of Radio & Weasel signed her a back up artist. Her voice was employed as back up on tracks like “Ntunga” and “Breath Away”.
She was paired with Mozambican songstress Liloca, and assigned to South African music producer Sketchy Bongo in 2016 when she was selected to participate in “Coke Studio Africa 2017” as one of the representatives of Uganda. Among Lydia Jazmine’s solo efforts are ‘Kapeesa’, ‘Masuuka’, ‘Ebintu Byange’, ‘Same Way (Feat Geosteady)’, ‘Sing For Me’, ‘Nkubanja’, and so many others.
