Ayra Starr is opening up about her friendship with fellow Nigerian superstar Wizkid, and the story is just as funny and endearing as fans would expect.
In a recent interview, the Rush hitmaker offered a candid look into her relationship with the Grammy-winning artist, describing him as a hilarious and supportive figure in her life. She joked that Wizkid is often “sick of her” because she constantly tries to make him laugh.
“Wizkid is an amazing friend and an amazing person to be around, and I could learn so much from him. He’s hilarious and we have the same humour, so he’s always sick of me because I try to make him laugh or something,” Ayra said.

The two recently teamed up for the infectious summer single Gimme Dat, which has further deepened their musical chemistry. But Ayra admits that working with Wizkid didn’t always feel so relaxed.
“During my first session, I was panicking because it was ‘Wizkid.’ And now we’ve done our music video together and I’m older. He’s always telling me how much I’ve grown.”
Ayra also shared how meaningful it is to receive recognition from a giant like Wizkid.
“He’s such an amazing artist and having such an icon working with me shows how much of an amazing artist I am. I had to sneak that in,” she added, laughing.
This playful insight into their friendship comes just months after Wizkid publicly praised Ayra Starr and Tems, calling them “amazing” in response to a viral tweet by rapper Odumodublvck.
