Tobi Amusan Shatters Rabat Record in Stunning Diamond League Comeback

World record holder Tobi Amusan reminded everyone why she’s one of the most electrifying athletes on the planet, storming to a season-best 12.45 seconds to win the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 Rabat Diamond League. In doing so, the Nigerian speedster smashed the meet record, previously held by American Brianna McNeal since 2018 (12.51s), and reignited her season in the most spectacular fashion.

A Bold Statement from the Champion

After an underwhelming start to her 2025 campaign, Amusan’s performance in Rabat was more than just a win—it was a resounding statement of intent. The 28-year-old entered the Moroccan meet with something to prove. Having finished fourth in both her earlier Diamond League outings in Xiamen (12.74s) and Keqiao (12.66s), the pressure was mounting. Rabat was her first major hurdles race since those setbacks, and she delivered in emphatic fashion.

“More hurdles practice,” Amusan explained after the race. “I had been doing more sprinting, and after the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference.”

That difference was clear for all to see. With her 12.45s finish, she not only claimed Season’s Best (SB) and Meeting Record (MR) honours but also catapulted herself back into the conversation as a top contender for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo.

Dominating the Field

Amusan led from start to finish, leaving a strong field in her wake. Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser finished second in 12.67s, while Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska took third in 12.69s. The win marked a turning point for Amusan and a reminder that when she’s in form, few in the world can match her over the hurdles.

A Season Rekindled

The road to Rabat was anything but smooth for Amusan. Her 2025 season was delayed after Nigeria pulled out of the World Athletics Relays in China, where she was scheduled to begin her campaign. With no hurdles event at the Doha Diamond League, Rabat became her first real opportunity to make a mark—and she seized it with authority.

Now, with the World Championships just months away, the Nigerian superstar has not only found her rhythm but also reasserted herself as a serious medal contender.

Simbine Sprints to Glory in Men’s 100m

In another highlight of the Rabat meet, Akani Simbine of South Africa delivered a blistering performance to claim his third Diamond League 100m win of the year, clocking 9.95 seconds.

Despite a rapid start from Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala, Simbine surged through the middle of the race to take a commanding victory. Omanyala settled for second in 10.05s, while American Fred Kerley finished third in 10.07s. Emmanuel Eseme clocked 10.10s to edge out Brandon Hicklin, while Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo faded to 10.43s after easing up near the finish.

All Eyes on Tokyo

With her record-setting performance in Rabat, Tobi Amusan has made it clear—she’s back, she’s focused, and she’s gunning for glory. As the countdown to the World Championships in Tokyo intensifies, fans and rivals alike will be watching closely.

For Amusan, this could just be the beginning of another golden chapter in an already glittering career.
