American R&B superstar Chris Brown has been granted bail in the UK after being arrested in connection with an alleged assault case dating back to 2023.
The Grammy-winning singer was taken into custody on May 15, 2025, shortly after arriving in the UK for the latest leg of his tour. According to Billboard, the arrest stems from allegations that Brown attacked music promoter Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle during a previous visit to the country. Prosecutors also claimed that the singer left the UK shortly after the incident, triggering legal action.
After being initially denied bail, Brown was released on May 21 under strict conditions, including a £5 million ($5.4 million) bail payment, with an additional £1 million due within seven days. The court has also ordered him to surrender his passport to authorities after each tour stop.
While Brown has not entered a plea or publicly commented on the allegations, UK authorities have confirmed that the case remains under active investigation.
Adding to the case, the Associated Press reports that a friend of Chris Brown has also been charged with causing bodily harm with intent in connection to the same incident.
Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 20, 2025, a date that falls between tour stops in Cardiff and London. Despite the ongoing legal battle, the singer has been permitted to continue with his summer tour across the UK and Europe.
This incident marks the latest addition to Brown’s long history of legal troubles, drawing renewed scrutiny over his conduct while on international tours. Fans and critics alike now await both his official statement and the unfolding of legal proceedings.
