Carlo Ancelotti to Lead Brazil: Real Madrid Legend Set for Historic Role as First Foreign Coach

In a groundbreaking move that has sent shockwaves through the football world, Carlo Ancelotti has officially signed on as the new head coach of the Brazil national team, becoming the first foreign manager to take charge of the Seleção in its illustrious history.

The 65-year-old Italian tactician, widely regarded as one of the greatest football managers of all time, will begin his new role on May 26, just days after concluding his final season with Real Madrid. His debut on the Brazil touchline is expected on June 6, in a crucial World Cup qualifying clash against Ecuador.

A New Chapter After Madrid Exit

Ancelotti’s move comes as no surprise, with speculation swirling for months about his future at Real Madrid. Despite a glittering second spell that included two Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns, this season has been a disappointment. Real Madrid were eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals, lost the Copa del Rey final to arch-rivals Barcelona in extra time, and are currently trailing in the La Liga title race.

Although Ancelotti’s contract with Madrid was set to run until 2026, a mutual agreement between the manager, Real Madrid, and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has paved the way for his departure. According to reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the transition was handled amicably, with Diego Fernandes of the CBF facilitating talks.

Real Madrid is now preparing for a new era under Xabi Alonso, with the club reportedly sealing a three-year deal for the Bayer Leverkusen boss, who is set to take over starting from the FIFA Club World Cup later this year.

A Bold Move by Brazil

The CBF confirmed Ancelotti’s appointment in a formal statement, marking a historic decision to trust a non-Brazilian to lead the nation’s beloved football team. CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues described the decision as more than a managerial change — it’s a strategic move to reclaim global dominance.

“Bringing Carlo Ancelotti to lead Brazil is more than a strategic move,” said Rodrigues. “It’s a statement to the world that we are determined to regain the top spot on the podium. He’s the greatest coach in history and now he’s in charge of the greatest team on the planet.”

Ancelotti will now take over from Dorival Junior, who was dismissed in March after just over a year at the helm. The Italian’s immediate focus will be to stabilize Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign and restore belief in a team that is chasing a record-extending sixth World Cup title in the upcoming tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

A Legacy of Success

With an unmatched resume that includes Champions League triumphs with AC Milan and Real Madrid, domestic league titles across Europe, and a calm, player-focused leadership style, Ancelotti brings a wealth of experience to one of the most demanding roles in international football.

Despite receiving a massive offer from the Saudi Pro League, Ancelotti has chosen legacy over money. His decision to lead Brazil shows his desire to tackle one of football’s most storied — and pressure-filled — roles.

What Comes Next?

Ancelotti’s first test will come fast, with a critical World Cup qualifier less than two weeks after he officially takes charge. Fans and pundits alike will be eager to see how he blends his tactical acumen with Brazil’s traditional flair.

If successful, Carlo Ancelotti could etch his name into Brazilian football folklore, not just as the first foreign manager, but as the one who led them back to global glory.
