2026 WCQ: Zimbabwe Players Offered N300m Each to Upset Nigeria

Nigeria’s Super Eagles face yet another twist in their turbulent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign as Zimbabwean players have been promised a staggering $150,000 (approximately N300 million) each if they can pull off a shock victory against Nigeria in Uyo.

The Zimbabwean government initially earmarked the incentive as a reward for a win against Benin on Thursday, but the Warriors could only manage a 2-2 draw. However, the offer still stands for their clash against Nigeria, a move seen as both a motivational push for the Warriors and an indirect challenge to the three-time African champions.

Nigeria’s qualification journey has been anything but smooth. The Super Eagles have failed to secure a single victory in four matches, languishing in fifth place in Group C behind Rwanda, South Africa, Benin, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe. With the 2026 World Cup set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Nigeria’s qualification hopes are hanging by a thread.

For Zimbabwe, this financial incentive could serve as a major boost, giving them extra motivation to exploit Nigeria’s struggles. Meanwhile, for the Super Eagles, the pressure is mounting as fans expect them to step up and reassert their dominance.

With all eyes on Uyo, will Zimbabwe rise to the occasion, or will Nigeria finally find their rhythm? The stakes couldn’t be higher.
